A Short Review by a Veteran of the Chaos)
I started with the Arma series way back when it was still called Operation Flashpoint. From that point on, I was hooked.
The modding possibilities, the massive maps, the weapon systems—it was always fascinating. I played in different groups and tried pretty much every kind of scenario you could imagine. Serious milsim? Check. Total chaos? Also check.
The series always held a special place in my heart, and to this day, Arma remains one of my most played game franchises.
But truth be told, I never really saw it as a PvP platform.
Sure, there was Wasteland and DayZ in Arma 2 and Arma 3, but beyond that?
PvP wasn’t the main draw. It was the sandbox, the modded servers, the possibility.
Here comes Arma Reforger.
A new engine, new potential, and—finally—a chance to play across platforms.
Yes, I can now team up or face off with the Consoleiros.
PC vs. Xbox vs. PS5. A blessing and a curse.
Because with that evolution came… gamespeed.
And with gamespeed came something that doesn’t always sit well with us old Arma players.
What do I mean?
Well, I liked the series for its complexity and deliberate pacing.
Arma wasn’t Call of Duty. It wasn’t Battlefield.
It was more like planning a hike, and sometimes someone gets shot.
It was slow. Tactical. Ruthless in its realism.
And it forced you to think—not just sprint and spray.
Reforger still captures some of that… but not all.
It’s faster now. Heavier on movement.
You still choose your gear carefully—but choosing wrong still punishes you hard.
Four AT rounds? You’re a walking refrigerator.
One AT round? Hope it’s the one you needed.
That tension hasn’t gone away.
What Have I Learned from Reforger?
Your kit still matters.
Ambush tactics are still satisfying.
The mods are already shaping up to be powerful.
And yes—sitting in a bush like a snake and ruining someone’s day remains a top-tier experience.
PvP, in particular, feels better.
I’ll hop on a server, sneak around, stalk a convoy—and when it works?
It feels like a movie scene that no one scripted. Pure immersion.
But It’s Not All Perfect
The UI still feels bulky.
The menu system lacks the intuitive flow we had before—like the scroll wheel menu for switching seats in vehicles.
Sometimes it just feels… clunky.
Not broken. Not bad.
Just not quite there yet.
Final Thoughts
Reforger is weird.
Frustrating.
Occasionally brilliant.
And somehow… it still feels like Arma.
In its own way, it carries the torch forward.
Different flame, same campfire.
I’m curious where it goes.
I’m cautiously hopeful for Arma 4.
But in the meantime?
I’ll be in the bushes, doing what I do best.
Annoying the hell out of anyone who thinks they’re safe.
